Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, painter, and author born Robert Allen Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1941. He moved to New York City in 1961 and recorded his first album for Columbia Records the following year. Dylan is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in popular music; his catalog includes more than 500 original compositions and has influenced virtually every subsequent generation of singer-songwriters. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition. Chronicles: Volume One was published in 2004; subsequent volumes have not yet appeared.
