He has a doctorate in history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked as a researcher and consultant at firms including Palo Alto Research Center, the Institute for the Future, and Microsoft Research. He writes about technology, work, and creativity. Rest was his second book; his third, Shorter, argues for a four-day workweek on similar productivity grounds.
