Le Corbusier (1887–1965), born Charles-Édouard Jeanneret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, was one of the twentieth century's most influential and controversial architects and urbanists. He worked primarily in France and is associated with the development of purism, the International Style, and later brutalism. Major projects include the Villa Savoye, the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille, and the planned city of Chandigarh in India.
