Richard Sennett is a sociologist who has spent his career studying cities, labor, and culture, teaching at the London School of Economics and New York University. A student of the philosopher Hannah Arendt and an heir to the American pragmatist tradition of John Dewey, he writes sweeping, humanistic books that cross history, philosophy, and social science. The Craftsman (2008) is the first volume of his Homo Faber trilogy on material culture, followed by Together (2012), on cooperation, and Building and Dwelling (2018), on the city. His earlier books include The Corrosion of Character and The Fall of Public Man.
