Rick Rubin is an American record producer who co-founded Def Jam Recordings in 1984 and went on to produce some of the most commercially successful and critically regarded albums of the last four decades, including records by Johnny Cash, Jay-Z, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty, Adele, Kendrick Lamar, and many others. He served as co-chairman of Columbia Records from 2007 to 2012. Rubin rarely discusses his specific production methods and instead focuses on environment, attitude, and the conditions for creative honesty. The Creative Act, published in 2023, is his first book.
