She is the author of The Poisonwood Bible, Prodigal Summer, Flight Behavior, and Unsheltered, among others. She has won the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Orange Prize for Fiction, and the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Demon Copperhead. She grew up in rural Kentucky and lives on a farm in southwest Virginia, the same region depicted in this novel.
