Jeffrey Eugenides is an American novelist born in Detroit in 1960. He is the author of three novels: The Virgin Suicides (1993), Middlesex (2002), which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and The Marriage Plot (2011), which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His work has been translated into more than thirty languages. He has taught creative writing at Princeton University and has been a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. He is known for extended periods between novels and for formal ambition that takes a different shape with each book.
