She created Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, wrote 66 detective novels, 14 short story collections, and the longest-running play in history, The Mousetrap. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized her as the best-selling novelist of all time. She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1971.
